Optional Extension Tour to:
Majestic sites & temples of ancient Egypt
March 21 - 28, 2013
Following “Ancient Mysteries Revealed”
Itinerary
Day 1: Take an early morning flight to Luxor. The charming town of Luxor was once the ancient Egyptian capital of “Thebes.” (85% of ancient Egyptian antiquities are located in Upper Egypt, centered around Thebes.)
This evening experience the Temple of Luxor. The temple's design is symbolic of the human body, reflecting the fact that the body is in turn a temple of the spirit.
Day 2: Tour the magnificent temples of Karnak, the largest ancient temple complex in the world. No one sees these temples without a sense of awe and wonder at their grandeur. You will also have free time to explore Luxor, Egypt's most charming city.
Day 3: Cross over the Nile to its West Bank, the "Land of the Dead." Visit the Valley of the Kings, the location of the eternal resting places of the Pharaohs. Here is where King Tut's tomb and many more were discovered. Also, tour the powerful temple of Medinet Habu, see the giant Colossi of Memnon and the exquisite Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, the only female Pharaoh of Egypt.
Day 4: Power Places Tours has made special arrangements to visit Abydos, the most important site in ancient Egypt and now rarely visited. Abydos was the holiest site in the world for ancient Egyptians and was the earliest site of civilization along the Nile. Here is the legendary tomb of Osiris, god of resurrection. Then tour the Temple of Hathor at Dendera and experience its special energy. Hathor is the goddess of love, music, and dance.
Day 5: Drive to Aswan and on the way visit the temples of Edfu and Kom Ombo. Edfu is the best preserved of all ancient Egyptian temples and is dedicated to the god Horus, the falcon-headed god for whom the Pharaoh was the representative on earth.
Day 6: Experience the temple of the goddess Isis at Philae, considered by many to be the most beautiful temple of Egypt. Later, enjoy a felucca (Egyptian sailboat) ride on the Nile.
Day 7: Day free in beautiful Aswan. Late in the day fly to Cairo and overnight.
Day 8: Departure to New York.
Note: Itinerary subject to change.
